The only homework we had this weekend was to finish the "So" part of your story plan. We went over this in class; it's the part that comes after event #3 and leads to how you drive at the solution of the story. Since I have your story plans you were to write it in your red notebook. Hope everybody had a nice weekend!

1.Let me tell you three things I've learned about my story plan. We are close to finishing our plans and then then owe'll begin the the next stage of story writing which will be plot development.
2. Let me tell you about why Ally won the election for class president. 3. There is math homework tonight for those students who did not finish in class. Let me show you how I can use the halving and doubling method of multiplication. It is a mental math strategy we can use to calculate larger products. 4. We had a great conversation about the results of our science experiment. Two big ideas that stood out for me were __________ and ____________. 5. The grade one's shared their wonderful work on their study of Canada during their assembly today. My favourite part was ________. Here are the questions that need to be answered in you science journal for tomorrow:
1. We are continuing our work writing our national parks inspired stories. Some of us have to finish writing our plan for event #2. We are carefully planning our stories before we write them!
2. Bake sale tomorrow. Items cost between $0.50 and $4.00. Money raised will support Me to We club initiatives. 1. Field trip forms came home today. Please sign and return with payment ($18.00) as soon as possible. We are going to see the play, Hana's Suitcase, at Storybook Theatre on Friday, May 5. Today we viewed a powerpoint that introduced us to Hana's Suitcase. Let me tell you about three main ideas that came from our discussion. In our blog, you can write some questions or thoughts you may have about this sad time in our history. Here is a link to the powerpoint should you want to view and discuss it with your family. www.holocaustmuseumswfl.org/wp-content/uploads/.../Hanas-Suitcase-PowerPoint.pp...
2. We conducted our second chemistry experiment today! Our 3 controlled variables were _______, _____, and _______. The manipulated variable was ________. I hypothesized that it would take ______ minutes for the lifesaver to dissolve. It actually took______ minutes! I think this happened because ________. Tomorrow we will conclude the experiment and analyze our results. 3. Due to the weather, rugby will be postponed until next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Same time, same place, just different days! 4. Why do we need to know multiplication as expanded notation? Can you show your parents how to use expanded notation as a method for calculating a product? Show your parents how I made mistakes in calculating today. What message was I trying to get across? We will have a speed drill tomorrow- have you been practicing? (Hint: I'm eliminating the 0's, 1's and 2's as factors!) ' 1. Today was Mrs. Thompson's last day as our student teacher. She has earned her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and can become an official teacher! During our celebration, she read our book of letters: Advice for Beginning Teachers! Let me tell you about the special box we put her gift of books in. We wish Mrs. Thompson farewell and good luck!
2. We reviewed our math quiz today. Let me tell you about it! It is very important for many of us to continue practicing our basic facts. We must have quick recall of these facts because we need them to do more complex skills. Just 10 minutes everyday with flash cards or a computer game will be sufficient! 3. On Monday we will change one variable from our Lifesaver experiment. Let me tell you what we plan to do for our new experiment! Do you think your lifesaver will dissolve the fastest? Why or why not? 1. This afternoon we learned more about Cyber Safety through a presentation by the Calgary Police. Let me explain three or more safety tips the officer presented on. There is a presentation for parents this evening in the gym at 6:30. Details about this were sent home via email last week.
2. The Me to We Club will be hosting a Bake Sale on Wednesday April 26. Items will be priced between $0.50 and $2.00. 3. Tomorrow is Mrs. Thompson's last day with us. We will have a small farewell celebration in the afternoon. Please remember to bring your donation for the "special something". Some students have to finish and return their piece of writing tomorrow. PLEASE remember to bring it back to school! 4. Next week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Rams Rugby is coming out to lead 3 one hour sessions to introduce us to the sport of rugby. Did you know that rugby the 2nd most popular sport in the world? 5. We finally got to conduct our Dissolving Lifesaver experiment! Let me describe how it dissolved and how long it took. Were you surprised by the process? Today was an extraordinary day as we had three presentations!
1. Let me tell you at least three things I learned from the amazing 94 year old, sharp as a tack, war veteran, Father Green. My favorite part of his presentation was _____________. Did you know his helper is an NHL __ i __ e __ __ a__ and he will be at the game tonight? Here is the link to his presentation: www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Father+green+war+veteran 2. Constable Melissa's presentation helped us understand how our __ __ __ __ __ are powerful. To help us understand this, we listened to the story Mr. Peabody's Apples. Here are some questions we discussed:
3. Congratulations to Michael on his fine ITN presentation on Ammolite. These are 3 things I found interesting about this cool gemstone ________, __________, _________. 4. Tomorrow afternoon we will have a presentation on the topic of CYBERCRIME. 1. Today we had a "dip stick" test in Multiplication. Some of us did not finish, we will complete our test tomorrow.
2. Tomorrow, we have two guest speakers. In the morning, WWII veteran Father Green, will speak to us about his experiences. In the afternoon,Constable Melissa will make a presentation on how what we say and how we say it can cause problems. Please, remember to come with questions that you might want them to answer. 3. Let me tell you three things we learned from ITN today. Congratulations to Jasmine who presented on the topic of how refugees from Syria were sponsored by the Brewster Touring Company to see the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Also, congratulations to Vikram who made it clear on his presentation why it is important to have "Daylight Saving" in Alberta. Most of us voted to keep daylight saving while a few of us voted against. What are your parents' views on this issue? 4. We are ready to conduct our next science experiment. How long will it take for a lifesaver to dissolve in water? 5. Let me tell you about my story plan. My problem is ______. My solution is _________. The problem in my story happens because ___________ (This is called the initiating e __ __ __ t). 6. Don't forget to brainstorm your ideas for our "special notes". AND- please consider a donation toward our special "something". 1. Let me tell you what I learned today about Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids.
2. Use your slide show to help you create your problem, and solution for your story. THEN think of 3 events that can lead you to your solution . Remember, your story needs to move from your initial problem and get worse and worse and worse until you arrive at the solution! 3. You will have a quick quiz in math on Tuesday - speed drill on facts, factor trees, halving and doubling, multiples of ten and problems with multiples. 4. Congratulations to Mao on his ITN presentation on the US involvement in Syria. Though a difficult topic, Mao was able to clearly help us understand the issues while making an important connection to Canada's role in helping refugees begin a new life in our wonderful country. 5.
